National Retrofit Hub becomes a Community Interest Company.

20 Jan, 2026

The National Retrofit Hub has become a Community Interest Company (CIC), formalising its role as an organisation that exists to serve the public interest and support better retrofit outcomes across the UK.

The condition of the UK’s existing buildings shapes daily life for millions of people. It affects health, comfort, energy bills, and resilience to a changing climate. Retrofit plays a central role in improving this, but progress depends on clarity, confidence, and coordination across a complex system. Becoming a CIC reflects the National Retrofit Hub’s focus on enabling that progress, practically and at pace.

The CIC structure embeds public benefit into how the organisation operates. It ensures the National Retrofit Hub is accountable to the retrofit community as a whole, including policy makers, industry, delivery partners and communities, and focused on long-term outcomes. Its work is directed towards improving how retrofit is understood, designed and delivered, so it leads to warmer and healthier homes, lower energy costs, reduced emissions, and greater resilience to overheating and flooding.

Day to day, this means bringing together evidence, insight and lived experience to show what retrofit can and should achieve. It means developing and sharing practical tools, resources and guidance that help people act with confidence. It means convening collaboration across policy, industry, delivery and communities, and supporting national and local decision makers with the insight needed to create the conditions for high-quality retrofit at scale.

As a Community Interest Company, the National Retrofit Hub will reinvest income and funding back into this work for the benefit of the wider retrofit community. This includes supporting research, shared resources, convening and practical support that reduce fragmentation, strengthen shared understanding of what good looks like, and help others deliver better outcomes in practice.

This step strengthens the National Retrofit Hub’s foundations and its long-term commitment to improving the performance of the UK’s homes and buildings, in ways that benefit people, places and the climate.
